Statistics

Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) is a critical concern in Europe, as it is globally. The exact statistics can vary based on the source of the data, the definition of SGBV employed and the timeframe of the study.

In 2012, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Human Rights (FRA) conducted a survey involving 42,000 women across all EU member states, making it the most comprehensive study to date on violence against women. The face-to-face interviews covered experiences of physical, sexual, and psychological violence—including domestic abuse, stalking, sexual harassment, and childhood trauma. The anonymised data offers crucial insights into the widespread nature of gender-based violence in Europe and is available on the link below.
